  • a kitten swimming ———to be licked by sibs

  • clack, slosh-clack and other sounds
  • watery stink from house gutters
  • half rotten leaves
  • worms and maple saplings,
  • angles of sunshine
  • swinging shadows of boys walking, leaning away from
  • the weight of this experiment
  • wet gray black fur
  • white tail dripping
  • a boy’s expectation of nothing in particular.
  • nothing but air
  • tools
  • hammers and crowbars up an ladder, to a roof in Oak Park Illinois
  • debris, splintered wood from 1920,
  • my thoughts about then,
  • and them, then, long ago…
